A multi-level deck makes sense when the back of the house sits high off the ground, when the yard slopes, or when the homeowner wants distinct zones, for example, an upper level off the kitchen for dining and a lower level closer to the yard for lounging. On a flat lot where the back door is close to ground level, a single-level deck is usually the cleaner answer.

How long does a multi-level deck take to build?

One to two weeks on site once construction begins. Multi-level decks take longer than a single-level deck of comparable surface area because each tier is framed independently, the connecting stairs are built into the structure, and the railing runs across multiple elevations.

What is the price range for a multi-level deck?

Multi-level decks sit at the higher end of our deck range due to the additional framing, stairs, and railing per square foot. We do not take on deck projects under 200 sq. ft. You will get a specific number after the in-home consultation.

Can a level be screened in or covered later?

Yes. A tier can be roofed, screened, or covered with a pergola later without rebuilding the deck. If a covered or enclosed level is on your wishlist for down the road, mention it during the design phase so we can size the framing and posts of that tier to carry the future load.
